Toyota
As part of Toyota Industries, Toyota created its first passenger car in 1936, the Toyota AA. Today Toyota is the world’s largest automaker and employs 316,000 people worldwide. Toyota emerged on the US market in part to the oil crisis of 1973, Americans began to look for smaller cars with better fuel economy. Toyota automobiles fit this mold perfect, since then they have developed fuel efficient and reliable automobiles that they have built their name on. In 1989 they launched a new luxury brand, Lexus. As popularity grew with Toyota, they began to branch out from the compact car line by adding larger and more luxurious vehicles including the T100 (Tundra), Camry, Solara, Avalon and Scion brands. Today they have the world’s best selling hybrid car, the Prius, in 1997.
Toyota is the one of the largest companies to push hybrid vehicles. They now sell many Toyota and Lexus hybrid models as they pursue technology for Plug-in Hybrids as well as All-Electric Cars.
