In 1901, Max Grabowsky established a company called the "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company", which developed some of the earliest commercial trucks ever designed. These trucks utilized one-cylinder engines. In 1909, the company was purchased by General Motors to form the basis for the General Motors Truck Company, from which GMC Truck was derived. In 1912 “GMC Truck” was first shown at the New York International Auto Show, 372 GMC trucks were produced that year. By 1916, a GMC Truck had crossed the country from Seattle to New York City. During World War ll, GMC produced over 600,000 Trucks for the military.

Today, for the most, GMC offers the same trucks available under the Chevrolet Brand. GMC has been known for it most popular models, the GMC Sierra, GMC Jimmy, GMC Envoy and GMC Yukon. In 2007 they introduced the GMC Acadia. During General Motors bankruptcy plan, the GMC brand was almost eliminated. Instead General Motors decided to keep the GMC brand along with Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick.

With General Motors bankruptcy, more and more dealerships have closed and will close. It is important to know that you don’t need to have your vehicle serviced or maintained at their dealerships.
