Dodge was founded by the Dodge Brothers Company in 1900 to supply parts and assemblies for Detroit’s growing auto industry, Dodge began making its own complete vehicles in 1914. The Dodge brand is now a division of the Chrysler Group, LLC. What most people do not know is that Dodge suspended civilian production of vehicles during World War II to focus on Military production of tough military-spec truck models and ambulances. As of 1945 Dodge restarted civilian passenger production. Dodge gained notoriety in 1953 when Dodge introduced its first V8 engine—the original design of the famed Hemi. This is the engine to today that most people are familiar with when they think of Dodge. Recently as of 2006 Dodge brought back their flagship vehicle by launching production of the Dodge Challenger.
